Finney at Know Book Store in Raleigh/Durham, NC, 1/24/03
RALEIGH/DURHAM, NORTH CAROLINA - On January 24th, 2003, 7:00 p.m.,
The
Know Bookstore, 2520 Fayetteville Street, Durham, will
feature the illustrious author/poet Nikky Finney as she reads from
her newly published collection of poetry and prose, The World
Is Round. Of this book, Walter Mosely says "The World Is
Round opens all my doors and windows and airs me out with a
cold and truthful wind."
On the following day, January 25th, 4:00 p.m., Finney will read
and sign books at Quail Ridge Books, 3522 Wade Avenue, Raleigh,
which will feature three Big Drum Press writer-poets (Shirlette
Ammons, Howard L. Craft, and R.C. Glenn) at an afternoon poetry
reading, with a special guest appearance by Finney.
On that evening, the Blue Coffee Company, 202 Corcoran Street
in Durham, will present an evening with Nikky Finney as she reads
from her new book at 8:00 p.m. This reading/signing is co-sponsored
by SONG (Southerners on New Ground), an organization that seeks
to build movement across the south for progressive social change
by developing models for organizing that connect race, class,
gender and sexual orientation.
Nikky Finney – The author’s first collection
of poems, On Wings Made of Gauze (William Morrow, Inc.),
was published in 1985. Her second book, Rice (Sister Vision
Press, 1995) is a collection of poems, stories, and photographs
that won the PEN American Open Book Award in 1999. Finney is Associate
Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Kentucky. For
